DETROIT – The Cleveland Guardians force Game 5 after defeating the Detroit Tigers 5-4 to stave off elimination.
Thursday’s (Oct. 10) Game 4 American League Divisional Series matchup was one for the history books as utility player David Fry’s two-out, two-strike, two-run go-ahead home run in the top of the seventh inning took all of the momentum out of Comerica Park.

Prior to that, switch hitter Jose Ramirez hit yet another two-out 408 home run to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth.
The Tigers rallied in the bottom of the eighth with runners on second and third base the best closer in the game Emmanuel Clase struck out Trey Sweeney (0-3) with a nasty splitter.
Fry, after the homerun pulled off a safety squeeze bunt to go up 5-3 while also moving the runners to second and third in the top of the ninth.
Fry had three runs batted in, but the star of the night was Steven Kwan, who continued to be on a heater at the plate.
Kwan has eight hits in the series, including three hits Thursday night. The Guardians have 28 hits all together.
With the victory, the Guardians snapped an 11-game postseason elimination losing streak, but the Tigers will have Tarik Skubal for all the marbles.
