DETROIT – The Detroit Lions' win over the Dallas Cowboys just keeps getting sweeter.
Detroit avenged last year’s controversial last-second loss with a 47-9 shellacking at AT&T Stadium, burying the Cowboys in the first half and keeping their foot on the pedal until the final whistle.
With the loss, Dallas fell to 3-3 on the season, and the ensuing meltdown has been really fun to watch.
Fans on social media were bemoaning the Dak Prescott contract extension after he threw his second interception of the game. Mike McCarthy’s job has been brought into question, as is always the case for whoever is coaching the Cowboys.
But it wasn’t a fan who threw the biggest tantrum on Tuesday. That honor belonged to none other than Jerry Jones, the team owner.
Jones has a weekly radio appearance on 105.3 The Fan, his team‘s official station. This week, the hosts asked him if the quiet offseason was partially to blame for Dallas’ 3-3 start.
Jones proceeded to go on a rant about how it’s unfair to look at past decisions without talking about the good.
“If you think I’m interested on a damn phone call with you over the radio and sitting here and throwing all the good out with the dishwater, you’ve got to be smoking something over there this morning,“ Jones said. ”I’m not. I don’t even want our listeners listening to me talk about -- this is not your job. Your job isn’t to let me go over the reasons that I did something and I’m sorry that I did it. That’s not your job."
Reminder: The Cowboys haven’t been to the NFC Championship Game since 1995.
Oh, and the Lions just scored again.
Sorry, back to Jones. He didn’t stop there. He threatened to fire the radio hosts and then jumped on his condescending high horse to imply that he knows football better than all the complainers.
“That’s not your job or I’ll get somebody else to ask these questions, men,” Jones said. “No, I’m not kidding.
“You’re not going to figure out what the team is doing right or wrong. If you or any five or 10 like you -- you need to come to this meeting I’m going to today -- the 32 teams here. You’re geniuses. OK.”
To his credit, Jones did tip his cap to the Lions for their role in the blowout. But the majority of his rant simply reeked of a frustrated billionaire who thinks he’s above criticism.
Oh, and Brian Branch just picked of Dak again.
