DETROIT – The Detroit Lions have reportedly traded for a star pass rusher at the deadline, and we’re learning the full details of the deal.
The trade deadline has been a roller coaster for Lions fans. On Sunday, reports surfaced that the team was expected to trade for Browns pass rusher Za’Darius Smith. Then, on Tuesday morning, a cryptic tweet from Smith had many panicking that the deal had fallen through.
But Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport are saying the deal is done, and Smith is heading to Detroit.
Full trade terms
Both reports say these are the full terms of the deal:
Lions receive:
- Za’Darius Smith.
- 2026 seventh-round pick.
Browns receive:
- 2025 fifth-round pick.
- 2026 sixth-round pick.
This deal seems like a no-brainer for Detroit, which adds a pass rusher to fill some of the void left by the injured Aidan Hutchinson, who was leading the NFL with 7.5 sacks at the time of his injury.
Smith has 5.5 sacks so far this season and 65 for his career. He’s 32 years old and signed through next season.
