DETROIT – Detroit Lions fans are furious with Tony Romo because of a comment he made during the team’s loss to the Buffalo Bills.
It happened as the Lions were facing a second-and-9 from the 12-yard line with 13:48 to play in the second quarter.

Jared Goff took the shotgun snap, dropped back, and immediately faced pressure from the edges. He tried to dump the ball off to Jahmyr Gibbs, who had flared out for a screen pass, but the throw was a little out in front and Gibbs slipped and fell down.
The pass fell incomplete.
“It’s going to be a screen pass that should have been an easy pitch-and-catch,” Romo said during the replay. “I mean, I think I could have gotten a 10-year-old team to just throw that pitch-catch.”
He’s not wrong that it was a fairly simple play, and one the potent Lions offense would normally execute. But stuff like that happens all the time in football games. Plays go awry. Guys slip.
It was a bit of a strange comment, and Lions fans on social media were not happy.

The Lions scored on the very next play, as Goff hit Tim Patrick for an impressive touchdown. But the Lions never quite recovered from that early 14-0 deficit, ultimately falling by a final score of 48-42.
All fans think commentators hate their favorite team, and I doubt Romo has some personal vendetta against the Lions. Sure, they popped his Cowboys 47-9 back in October, but does he care enough to be biased against them? Probably not.
Maybe he was just trying to be funny. It’s probably not that serious. But the frustration of the game didn’t have Lions fans in the best mood.
There aren’t currently any CBS games left on the Lions' schedule, but I’m sure fans will pay even closer attention to Romo the next time he’s on the call for Detroit.
