CHICAGO – The Detroit Lions dialed up a hilarious trick play involving a fake fumble that worked to perfection for a touchdown against the Bears.
Detroit got the ball first coming out of halftime after taking a 27-14 lead into the break.
After driving 58 yards to the 21-yard line, offensive coordinator Ben Johnson reached back into his deep bag of tricks.
Jared Goff took the snap and appeared to “stumble” as he dropped back, even swinging his right hand down near the ground. Jahmyr Gibbs added to the ruse by diving, as if recovering a loose ball.
But the ball was actually tucked into Goff’s left arm, and he straightened up suddenly, turned, and saw a wide open Sam LaPorta streaking toward the end zone.
Goff delivered a perfect ball and LaPorta hauled it in to give the Lions a 34-14 lead.
