DETROIT – Amon-Ra St. Brown spoke ahead of the biggest Detroit Lions regular-season game ever and said he thinks the NFL needs to make a rule change.
The Lions and Vikings both bring 14-2 records into the clash at Ford Field on Sunday Night Football. Detroit can clinch the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye with a win, but will fall to the No. 5 seed with a loss.
Both teams have already clinched playoff spots, but whoever wins Sunday will have a much more manageable route to the Super Bowl. (Click here for specifics on the Lions' route to the Super Bowl with a win or a loss this weekend.)
St. Brown was asked Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025, about the situation. The full quote is also in the video above.
“It’s crazy,” St. Brown said. “I mean, I think the rule should be changed. Obviously, if you win the division, you know, you should obviously make a playoff spot. But having a 14-win team having to go on the road is kind of crazy, but I guess, I don’t make the rules, so hopefully we can get a win and get home field advantage, but whatever happens we both have a spot in the playoffs, so we might see each other again after this game.”
The Lions could certainly use a week off ahead of the postseason, considering their mounting injuries. They haven’t had a bye since Week 5 in the first week of October.
With the game at home, the Lions are slight favorites. If they can come out with a win, they’ll likely be the favorite to make the first Super Bowl in franchise history.
