PHILADELPHIA – I’ll admit it: I’ve misspelled words before.

Shocking, I know. Sometimes your finger hits the wrong key. Sometimes you’re working too fast. Sometimes you just overlook a pesky “i before e.”

When it happens to me, I usually get a few emails. Unfortunately for the mayor of Philadelphia, she had a mistake that was a bit more high profile.

Mayor Cherelle Parker is trending on social media for her unsuccessful attempt at chanting “Eagles” ahead of the team’s divisional round game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Standing at a podium and surrounded by fans, Parker raised her arm and chanted confidently and proudly:

“E-L-G-S-E-S”

OK, in her defense, who among us hasn’t accidentally dropped an elgses? You know, “bald elgses,” “American Elgse,” “the Elgse has landed”?

At least all four of those letters are, in fact, in the word “Eagles.” And she got the number of letters right! I’m not sure where the A went, but let’s not harp on the negative.

Parker joked about her Eagles chant a few days later. Who knows, maybe it would have been good luck if Mike Duggan chanted “L-O-N-S-I-S” before the Commanders game. Oh well, maybe next year.
