DETROIT – The Detroit Lions have reportedly signed linebacker Derrick Barnes to a three-year contract extension.
The extension is for three years and $25.5 million, with $16 million guaranteed, according to Ian Rapoport.
Barnes missed all but the first three games of the 2024-25 season due to injury, making 10 tackles and eight solo tackles.
Since being drafted by the Lions in the fourth round in 2021, Barnes has made 205 tackles, 119 solo tackles, and four sacks.
His biggest moment came in the divisional round playoff win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in January 2024. Barnes picked off a Baker Mayfield pass to seal the victory and send the Lions to the NFC Championship Game.
Detroit hasn’t been shy about rewarding its internal talent under the management of Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell. Barnes follows the likes of Amon-Ra St. Brown, Penei Sewell, Jared Goff, Alim McNeill, and Taylor Decker in getting a major extension.
