Open to all ages and skill levels, Weavers Boxing Gym in Inkster serves as a community hub for anyone who wants to learn boxing, MMA or just wants a good workout.
As soon as you walk in the door, a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere is immediately felt as the gym is well-maintained and designed with colorful paintings. Gym owner Munib Salmani says he was aiming for a design that is inviting to all.

“I wanted a gym that could be somewhere you’d want to be at,” said Salmani. “Not just like ‘oh man I have to go to boxing.’ No, we’re going to go there and have fun. You can take pictures, you can have fun, you can just pull in if you’re not even trying to train. Just come by, be apart of the community and you’ll have a great time.”
The gym was founded in 2019 with a focus on Salmani’s own training as a boxer, kickboxer and MMA fighter while also improving the Inkster community.
“We’re all about helping the community as a whole improve,” said Salmani. “We work with all levels, anyone from beginner to professional stops in our gym.”
“All the experience of having fights and going out there and competing and testing yourself, you always come back with knowledge that you can give to people,” said Salmani. " I feel like that’s what separates me from a lot of these other guys is that I’ve done it on many different levels."
Training in combat sports offers benefits beyond just learning how to fight. It instils confidence, discipline and growth in those who remain committed to it. Salmani says learning how to fight is a humbling experience.
“Overall in my experience, I’ve just noticed that fighters are usually the most humble people you’ll meet in your life,” said Salmani. “Every now and then there’s an arrogant person but overall the most humbling thing you can do is learn how to fight and once you reach that point where you’re like, ‘okay I need to do this,’ you’re becoming more of a man. Or even if you’re a woman, now you’re becoming a better person in general so it’s good for you.”
Basil Nasser, who is also a professional boxer teaches the children’s class and has seen increased discipline from the youth that train there.
“It’s more about discipline than anything else in here,” said Nasser. “A lot of these kids nowadays think they can fight and just push people around but when they come in here, they realize they aren’t as tough as they think they are. It’s also good to keep them out the streets as well.”
“What I notice is that these kids are getting healthier, stronger and more confident,” said Salmani. " We get a lot of kids in here that are dealing with bullying, some are trying to get away from gang violence. There are so many different ways we get people in here but it’s all the same. They’re improving in multi-faceted ways."
“I learned a lot of mental toughness already from this,” said Weavers gym member Quincy Grignon. “Munib pushes me all the time to be tougher. Like when I’m dead tired working out mid-round, he’s always pushing me. Everybody’s very motivating and I just love the experience.”
The gym has its own branded merchandise consisting of boxing gloves, hand wraps, mouth guards, shin guards and apparel for sale.
Weavers offers a variety of memberships to all ages and skill levels depending on how much training you want to do. There is also a women’s only class available on Saturdays and Sundays. If you are interested in joining the gym, download the Weavers Boxing app or call the gym.
