LANDOVER, Md. – During the second quarter of Sunday evening’s game, Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown caught a fist to the face.

Jahmyr Gibbs had just scored on a 13-yard rush that put the Lions up 20-3, and Washington Commanders defensive lineman Daron Payne walked up to St. Brown and punched him square in the face.

Payne went on to receive a 1-game suspension from the NFL.

Amon-Ra was asked about the punch during the post-game press conference.

“Two plays before that, we got in a little scuffle back and forth. We end up scoring, and I go up to him and say a little something -- nothing crazy -- and then he decided to swing on me, so I mean it is what it is,” St. Brown recounted.

Payne will sit out during the Commanders’ next game versus the Miami Dolphins in Madrid, Spain.
