Ann Arbor native and 14-time national amateur champion Jasmine Hampton is continuing her fast rise in the professional boxing ranks, stepping into the ring for her third pro fight June 14 in Grand Rapids.

Fighting out of former world champion Tony Harrison’s SuperBad Gym, 30-year-old Hampton will fight in a six-round undercard bout at GLC Live at 20 Monroe.

Hampton says her game is built on being able to box elegantly while brawling if necessary. She believes she has the full toolkit to eventually become a world champion.

“I think I’m a boxer and I can fight, and then I also have that power,” she said. “A lot of my opponents, they respect me and they duck me as well.”

Hampton’s boxing journey started early, after her family moved from Ann Arbor to Ypsilanti. She remembers getting into frequent fights with neighborhood kids — until a local rec center offered a different outlet.

“There was this recreational center called Parkridge,” Hampton said. “My cousin wanted to box. I didn’t want to box but my mom was like, ‘Just try it.’”

Hampton says she fell in love with the sport almost immediately.

“About the third day, I fell in love with it. And I’ve just been boxing ever since,” she said.

Hampton developed her skills at Superbad Boxing Gym, co-owned by Detroit’s former world champion Tony “Superbad” Harrison and his brother LJ. She credits them with helping guide her both in and out of the ring.

“They’re good role models… like big brothers to me,” Hampton said. “They’ve just supported me through the highs, the lows, always on me, making sure I’m in the gym, sparring hard, training hard.”

Hampton recently signed with Salita Promotions, known for promoting boxing events across Michigan and for working with stars like Claressa Shields.

“He’s good with women,” Hampton said. “He has Claressa Shields, the biggest fighter right now in women’s boxing, so just to be on that level is just a blessing.”

Hampton’s goal is to climb the flyweight ladder and earn a shot at undisputed flyweight champion Gabriela Fundora — as soon as possible.

“I’ll take that fight today. I’m ready. I’m ready for the best,” Hampton said.
