Avila told reporters that he "has not discussed the situation" with Tigers manager Brad Ausmus.
Avila was asked if there is a scenario where Ausmus would stick around as the team rebuilds. He responded saying it's not out of the question, but he hasn't decided anything.
Ausmus has been with the Tigers since 2013, joining the club after Jim Leyland's retirement.
Ausmus led the Tigers to the playoffs in 2013 and in 2014, but have missed the playoffs the last two seasons.
The Detroit Tigers have traded star pitcher Justin Verlander.
Verlander has been traded to the Houston Astros for prospects. It was originally reported that Verlander may have vetoed the trade, but it was completed at the last minute.
The Tigers acquired pitcher Franklin Perez, center fielder Daz Cameron and catcher Jake Rogers from the Astros in exchange for Verlander and a player to be named later or cash considerations.
