Ex-Red Wing Mike Commodore continues tirade against Mike Babcock

Former NHL defenseman remains critical of coach

Mike Commodore will never forgive Mike Babcock for what allegedly happened while the two were with the Anaheim Ducks and Detroit Red Wings.

The latest episode of the ongoing "Commodore vs. Babcock" series got underway Saturday night when Pavel Datsyuk sent a harmless tweet congratulating his former coach on his 600th victory.

Datsyuk's former teammate was quick to take issue with any type of accolade for Babcock:

Commodore has been outspoken on the topic for years now, claiming Babcock "buried" him when he was playing in Anaheim's system way back in 2002. Babcock was coaching the Ducks at the time (Mighty Ducks back then) and Commodore was trying to make the team. Commodore claims after training camp Babcock chose an undrafted player over him because he was "his boy from juniors."

And it didn't stop there. A few years later, Commodore accepted a 1-year, $1 million contract with the Red Wings in 2011. However, the defenseman said he had his doubts about signing with Babcock's team. He claimed Babcock benched him for no apparent reason and the only way he saw any ice time was because GM Ken Holland forced the coach to put him in. He eventually was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning before season's end.

So when Commodore called Babcock a "piece of s***" this weekend, no one should be surprised. In fact, he has done it before. And it's clear he plans to continue his tirade against his former coach.

Babcock has never commented on the issue, and why would he? Commodore has long since left the NHL.
