Former Michigan football WR compares Jim Harbaugh to Paris Hilton: 'Given us nothing'

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Jim Harbaugh hasn't won a championship in his first three seasons as Michigan's head football coach, but most people around the sport agree he's turned the program around.

Before Harbaugh arrived in Ann Arbor, the Wolverines had missed bowl games in three of seven seasons, including a 5-7 campaign in 2014. He immediately turned in back-to-back 10-3 seasons, and is 28-10 overall.

Former Wolverines wide receiver Amani Toomer went on 97.1 The Ticket's "Jamie and Stoney" show Thursday morning to talk about Harbaugh, and he didn't mince his words.

"I'm a frustrated fan," Toomer told Michael Stone and Jamie Samuelsen. "I think that what Michigan signed up for was a Nick Saban, an Urban Meyer. We signed up for somebody who was going to come in and change the culture. I mean, he had a great first year. The first two years I was excited. But last year he had his best team and they lose to Ohio State? That was a heartbreaker."

Toomer played four seasons at Michigan, three under Gary Moeller from 1992 to 1994, and one under Lloyd Carr in 1995. During his freshman year, Michigan went 9-0-3 (yes, three ties), but the Wolverines lost four games in each of his final three seasons.

Though his teams' success didn't match Harbaugh's, Toomer was more focused on the performance against rivals. Harbaugh is 1-5 against Ohio State and Michigan State, while Toomer went 4-3-1 during his career.

"The fact that we’re getting beat by Ohio State three times -- how comes nobody’s saying anything about that?" Toomer asked. "He's only beaten Michigan State once. How do you sit there and say that's OK?"

Toomer, who caught 138 passes for 2,522 yards and 16 touchdowns during his Michigan career, even went as far as comparing Harbaugh to Paris Hilton.

"To me, that's not a supermodel," Toomer said of Harbaugh. "That's Paris Hilton. That's somebody who's given us nothing. But, 'Oh, we're going to Rome. Oh, we wear Michael Jordan shoes.' I don't care. I want to beat Michigan State. I want to beat Ohio State. That's the passion that I have for the program."

Last week, Toomer said Michigan fans were accepting mediocrity under Harbaugh.

"Look, we don't hate Harbaugh," Toomer said. "That's not the point of this. The point is I just want the team to be better. I'm not trying to tear apart the program. I love the program. I risked my life on the field for Michigan. I bleed blue. But for people to be OK with this is bothersome to me."
