The debate between incumbent Mayor Mike Duggan and challenger state Sen. Coleman Young II, at the WDIV-Local 4 studios in downtown Detroit, garnered significant viewership on-air and online.
Nearly 140,000 viewers tuned in for Local 4’s on-air broadcast of the Detroit Mayoral Debate. Plus, close to 150,000 were engaged online -- that includes a combination of ClickOnDetroit’s livestream, Facebook Live and other online video engagement.
The event was followed by a post-debate discussion panel live on ClickOnDetroit. In addition to the main event coverage, 5,573 unique visitors clicked on debate-related articles online.
“It’s crucial for us to make sure we reach as many Metro Detroiters as possible during important events like this. With the strength of our on-air and online coverage, I’m pleased to know we were successful,” said WDIV Vice-President and General Manager Marla Drutz.
The Detroit Mayoral Debate delivered a 6.3 household rating, second only to Game 2 of the World Series, which averaged a 9.7 household rating. The debate also beat “Survivor” on WWJ (CBS), and “The Goldbergs” and “Speechless” on WXYZ (ABC).
