You may have seen a graphic political ad air on WDIV on Friday.
The ad is for anti-abortion rights activist and presidential candidate Randall Terry.
Federal law places restrictions on WDIV’s ability to reject or modify political ads by candidates for elective office, regardless of the graphic nature of offensiveness of the content of the ads.
After consulting with our station attorneys, because the advertiser is a legally qualified candidate running for President of the United States, we are required to provide the candidate with reasonable access to purchase reasonable amounts of airtime on our station; further, we have confirmed that the ad cannot, under federal law, in any way be censored or its content modified by the station.
The ad is running is at least 12 states across the U.S. ahead of the election.
