Karen McDonald is leading incumbent Jessica Cooper in the Democratic primary election for Oakland County Prosecutor. McDonald previously served as a judge on the 6th Circuit Court. Brenda Lawrence has won the Democratic nomination for U.S. House in Michigans 14th congressional district. Lawrence, the incumbent, was first elected in 2014 and was re-elected in 2016 and 2018. This time, she defeated opponent Terrance Morrison by a wide margin in Tuesdays primary. LANSING, Mich. As election results for Primary Day Tuesday slowly come in through the night and into the next day, Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said she is already preparing for the November general election. About 1.6 million people submitted their absentee ballots out of 2 million who requested a ballot for the primary election, Benson said, which could delay the final unofficial results to mid-day Wednesday. Benson said roughly 46,000 absentee ballots were rejected in Marchs primary election because they arrived after the election date. Benson said Tuesdays election also showed her that the state will need to further prepare more people to work on election day. Benson addressed an incident in Detroit where election workers were not present at 7 a.m. to open the polling location.

Tim Kelly has won the Republican nomination for U.S. House in Michigans 5th congressional district. Kelly defeated Early Lackie for the nomination. He will go up against incumbent Rep. Debbie Dingell has won the Democratic nomination for U.S. House in Michigan’s 12th congressional district. Dingell, the incumbent, defeated Solomon Rajput by a vast margin in Tuesday’s election. It was previously held by her late husband, John Dingell. Republican Jeff Jones ran unopposed in the primary. Republican Peter Meijer has won the 2020 Republican primary election for U.S. House Michigan District 3. Meijer defeated Joe Farrington, Emily Rafi, Tom Norton, and Lynn Afendoulis in Tuesdays election. Meijer, who describes himself a son of West Michigan and a veteran of the war in Iraq, will now go up against Democrat Hillary Scholten in November. Scholten ran unopposed in the Aug. 4 primary.
