A Macomb County family is afraid a road construction project will force them out of their home, which has stood in its spot for 120 years.

A 20-year-old man was killed Thursday morning when his motorcycle struck the side of an SUV turning left in front of him in Macomb Township, officials said.

The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office has lifted a shelter-in-place recommendation for residents of Monarch Drive near 22 Mile Road in Macomb Township following a gas line break in the area.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Since the coronavirus pandemic began, one Metro Detroit neighborhood saw a dramatic rise in speeding vehicles. Drivers have used the Macomb Township neighborhood as a way to cut through, putting children and families at risk. “But this feels like a main road.”Local 4 Defenders set up a radar gun and caught drivers going way over the speed limit in the neighborhood filled with children. Residents said the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office was asked to patrol the area, but all they did was put up a device to track a vehicle’s speed. Since the Defenders began looking into the problem, the Sheriff’s Office reinstated the radar trailer in the subdivision to gather more data from speeders.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Both directions of Schoenherr Road were closed Wednesday night between 21 Mile and 22 Mile roads in Shelby Township for emergency repairs after a vehicle crashed into a fire hydrant. There were no serious injuries reported. The crash caused a sinkhole, shutting down the road for emergency repairs. The road remained closed Thursday morning.
