Michigan voters will decide the future of abortion care in November, but until then there are still multiple court cases playing out.

The battle over abortion rights in Michigan will be decided by voters this November.That decision came down Thursday from the Michigan Supreme Court in a 5-2 vote.

The State Board of Canvassers deadlocked along party lines, meaning the abortion rights proposal and an overhaul of voting rights will go to the Michigan Supreme Court; The ballot needs to be finalized by Sept. 9, so we’re looking at a week to get a decision from the court.

A decision being weighed in Oakland County Wednesday is if the 1931 Michigan law that criminalizes abortion goes into effect. As of right now, there is an injunction in place preventing that law from going into effect.

Michigan’s battle over abortion rights keeps shifting and changing with access to the procedure hanging in the balance.

Blue Cross Blue Shield recently expanded their coverage as an option to reimburse travel costs for some of its services, including abortions. While abortions can still be performed legally in Michigan, that could change after some pending court cases.
