DETROIT – Mayor Mike Duggan has named Trisha Stein as the new Chief of Staff for the City of Detroit. Stein replaces Alexis Wiley, who has served as Chief of Staff since May 2014. Mayor Mike Duggan's OfficeStein will take over as Chief of Staff on January 1. Before Stein joined the police department, Stein served as interim director of Planning & Development from 2014-15, where she developed the investment strategy and implementation plan for the city’s HUD entitlement funds, according to a press release. “Trisha is one of the most widely respected and effective public administrators in Michigan and the City is fortunate to have her as its new Chief of Staff,” Mayor Duggan said.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessels Public Integrity Unit served a search warrant in the city of Detroit last Friday. Community activist Robert Davis got the warrant through a Freedom of Information Act request and it reveals what the AGs office was looking for. A Detroit Inspector Generals investigation found Wiley abused her authority when she ordered those emails to be deleted. The city said it is complying fully with the search warrant. We continue to cooperate fully with the AGs staff and we hope their work is completed soon."

The OIC investigation involved Hassan's nonprofit organization, Make Your Date, and the city's support of the organization. Duggan said Wiley was trying to protect his staff by ordering the emails to be deleted. He said his staff tried to release the emails in advance of the OIG report, but the OIG asked them not to do so.

DETROIT - Twenty recreation centers have closed in Detroit in the last 40 years, and 19 remain for 700,000 people. Tonisha Woods lives on the east side, and she said there aren't many places or programs for her two boys to attend in the summer. "I think it's only one recreation center on the east side of Detroit that kids go to," Knox said. Enter the city of Detroit and its new idea: to offer summer activity centers inside churches and nonprofits. Churches and nonprofits that are interested in the program can attend an informational workshop on Oct. 7 at 4 p.m. at Northwest Activities Center.
