From Detroit to Dearborn, Monroe to Mt. Clemens, and Wyandotte to Warren, we know Southeast Michigan is full of talent. We feature amazing people on our show all year, but now you have the opportunity to take your talent to the next level. Casting is underway for Season 18 of “America’s Got Talent,” and all you have to do is look at the Detroit Youth Choir to know that you can go from the D to the national spotlight with one push of a button.

We’ve seen the Detroit Youth Choir (DYC) rise to the top during their appearance on “America’s Got Talent”, and with many new opportunities that have opened up for them since then. Now the choir is returning to the national stage.

A spinoff of “America’s Got Talent” that will bring together past contestants from the U.S. show and other countries is coming to NBC.

Following the Detroit Youth Choir’s run on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent," a production company is interested in portraying the group’s rise to fame in a new documentary TV series, or docu-series. Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the talented performers of the Detroit Youth Choir have continued to safely rehearse. Unfortunately, though, the pandemic has directly affected the Detroit Youth Choir family. “The Detroit youth choir has really brought back Motown,” White said.

DETROIT – After the Detroit Youth Choir earned second place on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent (AGT),” the group is on the verge of hitting a new level of fame. Now the group is being considered for a Grammy for their rendition of the song “Glory" -- an Oscar-winning song from the 2014 movie “Selma.”“The production company sent me an email saying, 'Congratulations, you guys are considered for a Grammy for the re-imagination of ‘Glory’," said Anthony White with the Detroit Youth Choir. LOS ANGELES – Gabrielle Union and NBC said Tuesday that they have settled their differences in their dispute over her firing as a judge on “America's Got Talent,” which she said was retaliation for her complaints that the show tolerated racism on the set. “We’ve reached an amicable resolution," Union and the network said in a joint statement. "NBC Entertainment appreciates the important concerns raised by Gabrielle Union and remains committed to ensuring an inclusive and supportive working environment where people of all backgrounds are treated with respect.”Both sides declined further comment, and would not give further details. Variety reported soon after that Union, who is Black, believed she was fired because she had asked NBC and the show’s producers to respond to an environment that tolerated racist jokes and remarks from judges and producers. One year ago, the Detroit Youth Choir finished in second place, and this year, the choir returned for an encore performance. The choir prerecorded its performance in Detroit instead of live in Los Angeles because of COVID-19 restrictions and changes to the show. White says Detroit Youth Choir is now made up of three different choirs, developing at different levels. It was established at the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, providing support to the Detroit Youth Choir in perpetuity. Shyel White said being a part of the Detroit Youth Choir improved her self-confidence.

Three of the finalists from this season of America’s Got Talent took time today to talk with host Tati Amare before their performances tonight. They’ve all made it through round after round of eliminations to make it to tonight’s show. Singer Archie Williams said that no matter what happens tonight, he already feels like a winner. Prior to the show, Williams had spent more than 35 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. Now he says that he just wants to help those in similar situations.

DETROIT - In partnership with the city of Detroit and the Downtown Detroit Partnership, WDIV-Local 4 will throw a homecoming celebration for the "Americas Got Talent finalists, Detroit Youth Choir, on Friday at Campus Martius Park in Downtown Detroit. In June, Americas Got Talent host and Flint native, Terry Crews, sent the local choir to the quarterfinals with the press of his golden buzzer. White expressed his gratitude to the Detroit community while competing in Hollywood. DETROIT - Tension, excitement and happy tears filled the room as more than 100 parents and friends packed the Northwest Activities Center for a watch party to support the Detroit Youth Choir on "America's Got Talent." The parents haven't seen their children in two months and their kids have kept what their performance numbers would be super secret. "My son won't tell me and I want to know," DYC parent Kyana Smith laughingly told us. "I'm proud of him, the choir, Mr. White and now they have a chance to win it all." LOS ANGELES - The Detroit Youth Choir will take the stage Tuesday in Hollywood for the finals of "America's Got Talent." The children have wowed the judges and America every step of the way, but Tuesday night is time to leave everything on the stage in hopes of bringing the crown home to Detroit.
