Ann Arbor police are investigating after a victim was punched and threatened with what they believed was a gun during a traffic dispute at a flashing yellow light.
Officials with the Ann Arbor Police Department are asking the public to help identify the two men, who knocked on the family’s door, rung the doorbell and called out to the homeowner by name.
“Remember, thieves are looking for easy opportunities and it only takes seconds for a thief to rummage through an unlocked vehicle," police wrote.
"Police departments will never call you on the phone demanding money to resolve any legal issue or ask for money period," Ann Arbor police wrote.
“Gun violence at any level is unacceptable in our community. We are very fortunate that this incident didn’t result in serious injuries. The department is actively putting resources together to address what happened,” said Ann Arbor Chief of Police Andre Anderson.
Ann Arbor Fire Department officials said hydraulic extrication tools, known as Jaws of Life, were used to remove the man pinned inside the car.
The two attempted to steal items from Falsetta’s Market, at 2200 Pittsfield Blvd, around 2 p.m. then threatened employees when confronted, police said.
There were no serious injuries despite the high volume of incidents, and most of the weather-related calls happened between 1-10 p.m., according to the post.
“I’m confident that Andre’s broad management experience and community engagement capabilities will be an asset to the Ann Arbor Police Department, which has a well-earned reputation for excellence,” Dohoney said in a release.
