DETROIT – Bedrock announced on Monday that it is laying off about 60 employees in midst of a restructuring. In a statement from the company, the employee changes are a result of “a restructuring that will position the company for continued growth and improved service in 2021 and well beyond.”A full statement from Bedrock reads:“Today, Bedrock announced a restructuring that will position the company for continued growth and improved service in 2021 and well beyond. DETROIT – A piece of Downtown Detroit real estate is getting a new temporary tenant. Bedrock and Emagine Entertainment are partnering up to launch the Monroe Street Drive-In Powered by Emagine. The theater opens on Jan. 22 with the opening night screening of the 1993 film Jurassic Park. Tickets will cost $20 per vehicle and will be available in the coming days at emagine-entertainment.com. Additionally, tickets can be purchased in-person at the Monroe Street Drive-In Powered By Emagine when gates open at 6 pm starting Jan. 22, 2021.

A Ford Escape automatically stops as a pedestrian crosses in front during a self park demonstration, Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2020 in Detroit. Ford, Bosch and real estate company Bedrock are teaming up to test technology that will let vehicles park by themselves in parking decks. The companies are testing the technology using floor-mounted sensors and computers that can control mainly existing features in the Ford Escape. Data would be gathered and problems worked out, and from there, the systems would spread to other smart garages with sensors and computers. So far Ford, Bosch and Bedrock have an agreement for the initial demonstration project, but are eyeing future deals.

DETROIT – A combination of heat and old infrastructure caused a Downtown Detroit road to buckle and a water main to break Saturday night. The water flooded the basement of the David Stott Building on Griswold Street, near Campus Martius, leaving dozens without power. It happened on Independence Day at about 10:30 p.m. A water main burst along Griswold Street between Michigan Avenue and State Street, flooding the intersection. Bedrock released the following statement:The Stott building is currently experiencing a power outage resulting from a water main break late Saturday evening. We are currently evaluating the extent of the damage and have reached out to all building residents as we assess necessary repairs.

DETROIT The University of Michigan is building a new innovation center at the site of the failed Wayne County jail project in Downtown Detroit. Bedrock, the University of Michigan and local leaders announced the project this week that will sit on Gratiot Avenue, near Eastern Market, spanning 14-acres, named the Detroit Center for Innovation (DCI). DETROIT - We are getting a look at what the inside of a rehabilitated Book Tower could look like as Dan Gilbert's Bedrock announces an architect for the design project. ODA has been selected to design a mix of residential, hospitality, retail and office space at the Book Tower in Downtown Detroit. Book Tower originally was built as an office tower and took a decade to complete. Bedrock said ODA's role is to update and expand on Book Tower's programming and existing structures, creating nearly 500,000 square feet of Downtown residential, hospitality, retail and office space. DETROIT - As construction ramps up at the Hudson site in downtown Detroit, the planned skyscraper may NOT end up being the tallest building in the city. Bedrock now says it has scrapped plans for a public observation deck so it's possible the new building will not reach the initial estimate of 734-feet, which would've been taller than the Renaissance Center.
