ANN ARBOR, Mich. โ On Sunday, members of Boy Scout Troop 27 will be at St. Francis of Assisi Parish from 2-6 p.m. to help donors during a Lent food drive. The food drive will accept non-perishable goods to give to Hope Clinic, Catholic Social Services of Northside Community Center, Foundations Preschool of Ann Arbor and Corpus Christi Parish in Detroit. Donations can also be dropped at the church food box near the main door. In November 2020, Troop 27 broke its single-day record by collecting 591 bags and boxes of food and personal items.

Chippewa Valley Schools has started face-to-face learning with elementary schools Wednesday and secondary students return Monday with its hybrid program. Mohawk Elementary School in the Chippewa Valley School District and has an outdoor classroom space that was designed by 17-year-old Mohawk alum Nate Lyons. It is now a viable space for children to learn. Lyons combined science with creativity to create the space.

According to event coordinator and Troop 27 alumnus Zach Damon, Troop 27 collected 591 bags and boxes of food and personal items -- enough to help over 100 local families. Members of the National Eagle Scout Association NESA Alumni of Michigan were also on site over the weekend. All year long, the church collects non-perishable foods from its members and from local residents. According to Washtenaw Countyโs food rescue program Food Gatherers, its 170 network partners have reported a 30-300% increase in community members seeking food assistance since the COVID-19 outbreak began in March.
