The phrase "Breast Implant Illness" (BII) is used by women who identify symptoms with their breast implants. By 2000, the movement of her saline implants were making her so uncomfortable that she, along with her doctor, decided to replaced them with textured silicone implants. In the early '90's, silicone implants were taken off the market because of the many reports of women experiencing health issues linked to ruptures in the silicone implants. Through an array of treatments and medications, Crowell still felt ill but didn't think it was related to her breast implants.
