PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred Friday night at a Pittsfield Township Burger King. According to authorities, it happened at about 8:20 p.m. at the Burger King located near the intersection of Platt Road and Michigan Avenue. Police said employees told them they were held at gunpoint and forced to hand over money from the safe. The culprit fled from the location north through a lot and a witness observed the getaway vehicle free westbound on Textile Road. Burger King is introducing a plant-based burger in Europe. Impossible Foods' burger hasn't been approved for sale in the European Union because it contains genetically modified ingredients. The Impossible Whopper made by California-based Impossible Foods attracted many new U.S. customers to Burger King when it debuted this spring. The Impossible Whopper was such a success that Burger King is now testing other versions including a kid's Impossible Cheeseburger at 180 U.S. restaurants. "Given the positive reactions to the product in the U.S.A. and raising demand in Europe, Burger King wanted to bring this category to Europe as soon as possible," the company said in a statement.

It said McDonald's also recently announced a test of a Beyond Meat burger in Canada. The upbeat sales forecast comes as Beyond Meat and rival Impossible Foods are facing more competition, including from food industry giants like Nestle and Tyson that are also looking to tap into the demand for plant-based options. The fast-food chain didn't provide details on how much the burger contributed to U.S. sales, but said it sees momentum for continued growth for plant-based options. It previously forecast sales of more than $240 million.

Dunkin' via CNN(CNN) - Dunkin' is launching its Beyond Meat breakfast sandwich nationally in November, two months ahead of schedule, after a highly successful test of the product this summer. Dunkin' first introduced a breakfast sandwich featuring Beyond Meat's meatless sausage in New York City this July. Just a month later, Burger King announced that it would make the product available nationally because the test had gone "exceedingly well." For chains like Burger King, Dunkin' and others, the meat substitute protein trend could be a boon. For Dunkin', the Beyond breakfast sandwich is also a way to capture sales in an expanding segment.

But Burger King is squeezing new life out of its iconic menu item through themed special editions throughout the year. Burger King hired Riz Mirza, a psychic medium, to produce a "spirit taste test" advertisement. "'It's beyond belief to experience this taste,' said one of the spirits," Burger King said in a press release. Burger King frequently uses its most recognizable burger in splashy promotions. Burger King rolled out the meatless version nationwide this summer to great success.

An Ohio woman says she caught a Burger King employee snapping a photo of her credit card at the drive-thru. Trisha Ryan told WKRC she pulled up to the window to pay after placing an order and handed over her credit card. She said she saw the employee hesitate for a fraction of a second, which made her pay closer attention than she might have otherwise. Some 320 tonnes of single-use plastic will be saved each year, according to Burger King. The company will also install containers in UK stores so that old plastic toys can be recycled and used to build play areas. Burger King was responding to a petition from Ella and Caitlin McEwan, aged 9 and 7, who wrote: "It's not enough to make recyclable plastic toys big, rich companies shouldn't be making toys out of plastic at all." Burger King said it intends to remove non bio-degradable plastic toys from other markets by 2025.

Starting this fall, the plant-based meat substitute will be available at about 1,500 colleges, corporate cafeterias and hospitals through Sodexo, a foodservice company. That means workers at corporate offices of major companies, including Unilever and Ford, students and fast-food customers throughout the country will soon be able to buy an Impossible burger with ease. The other is to use pre-made meat substitutes, like Impossible's protein, for dishes designed to mimic the taste of meat. Meat substitutes may once have been a niche product, but today they're attracting mainstream consumers, including non-vegans.

(CNN) - Subway is exploring the plant-based protein trend with a meatless meatball sub. The Beyond Meatball Marinara sub will be available for a limited time. Burger King will start serving a meatless version of its Whopper, featuring a patty made by Beyond competitor Impossible Foods, nationwide this week. For restaurants, testing out the products is a way to cash in on a fast-growing trend. Beyond and Subway worked together to develop the Beyond Meatball, which is only available at Subway restaurants.

(CNN) - Burger King will start selling its meatless Whopper across the United States on Aug. 8, the biggest rollout for Impossible's plant-based product. The burger chain has been selling the Impossible Whopper, featuring a meatless patty made by Impossible Foods, in a few markets in the United States since April. The Impossible Whopper has been performing well, Chris Finazzo, Burger King's president for the Americas, told CNN Business. The Impossible Whopper is supposed to taste just like Burger King's regular Whopper. Burger King hasn't yet decided whether to make the Impossible Whopper a permanent part of its menu.

The chain won't say how many of the burgers it's sold since first introducing them in April, but did say it's enticing more people to enter its stores. Impossible Foods, the company that makes the burgers for Burger King and White Castle, is struggling to meet surging demand. On Thursday it announced a new partnership with OSI, one of the world's largest food producers. Impossible Foods has doubled the workers at its plant and produced a record number of burgers in June, but demand is still outpacing production.

(CNN) - Burger King is trying to get customers' attention with something a little different: Tacos. Burger King first tested out tacos in western states. "We've seen success with tacos in those restaurants and knew it was time to bring this west coast favorite nationwide," Chris Finazzo, president of North America for Burger King, said in a statement. They could distract Burger King from focusing on creating growth within its main menu, Saunders said. But "sometimes you get the impression that Burger King chases after the shiny objects rather than focusing on the core business."
