It’s a special weapon used to fight a dangerous fungus by doing something humans can’t by zapping a growing threat before it can infect vulnerable patients.

The CDC has issued a warning about Candida auris, saying the fungus spread at an “alarming rate” in healthcare facilities in 2020 through 2021.

A hospital in Detroit will no longer admit patients while it works to end an outbreak of Candida auris, according to MDHHS.
