AdSlotkin cited a new Homeland Security threat assessment that detailed that 2020 was a perfect storm for radical domestic groups. “Our government must send its own message back by labeling extremist violence as domestic terrorism.

She discussed the terror threats this weekend at the Michigan Capitol where law enforcement officials were on high alert over a scheduled protest. “If domestic terrorism is allowed to flourish that will be a physical threat to our citizens so I’m trying to grapple with that and shift feet,” she said. Michigan is clearly no stranger to domestic terrorists and extremist groups. Long a hot bed for anti-government groups the state has some of the most extensive domestic terror laws on the books. In Michigan, concealed and open carry firearms are allowed in the Capitol, but signs have been banned since 2012 after right-to-work protesters came to the Capitol. The Michigan State Capitol Commission, which is responsible for overseeing the Capitol and ultimately for making a decision on the future of firearms, has pushed back on accepting the responsibility and its leadership maintains its role should be limited. Sen. Dayna Polehanki (D-Livonia) has released the following statement in advance of the Michigan Capitol Commission’s scheduled meeting Monday afternoon to discuss implementing a ban on the open carry of firearms in the Capitol Building:”Let me make this clear: The Capitol Commission’s proposal to ban open carry from the people’s building does not ban bullets. LANSING, Mich. – Five of the men charged in an alleged domestic terror plot targeting Michigan Gov. FBI officials said the men were captured on audio tapes plotting to kidnap or kill Whitmer and overthrow the state Capitol Building. Brian Higgins was charged after the FBI uncovered a domestic terror plot targeting Michigan Gov. FBI officials said the alleged plot was to storm the state Capitol Building or kidnap Whitmer from her northern Michigan vacation home. FBI officials said they were able to stop the men before that happened.

Local 4 has learned more Friday about the alleged plot to kidnap Gov. That’s when the Wolverine Watchmen caught the FBI’s attention. In June, the men involved in the kidnapping conspiracy started meeting with members of the Wolverine Watchmen and recruiting others to their ranks. “They belong to a group, a militia group, called the Wolverine Watchmen. A house on Dunn Road in Munith that was raided Oct. 8, 2020, in connection with a plot to kidnap Michigan Gov.

Gretchen Whitmer has signed an executive order requiring children and workers to wear face masks at Michigan childcare centers, camps. As of 2020, exactly eight years later, there has been no arrests made connected to the case. Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said Thursday that more voters participated in this years Aug. 4 Primary Election than any other August primary in the states history. LANSING A group of Michigan educators took to the lawn of the Capitol Building in Lansing on Thursday to protest the states return-to-school plan amid the coronavirus pandemic. Thursdays protest was about the online learning teachers want instead of in-person learning, and so they have been very serious about their social distancing. Knowing that Detroits superintendent, Dr. Nikolai Vitti, is pushing hard for in-person learning, she sees more practical problems.
