The man in the red suit and Mrs. Claus made virtual visits from the North Pole via Zoom to sick children at Michigan Medicine C.S. Child and Family Life staff made the cherished yearly visit possible by bringing Santa room to room on an iPad. “Because of their health conditions, visiting Santa isn’t possible for many of them, let alone during a pandemic. DETROIT – Detroit firefighters pulled a 20-year-old woman and a young boy from a burning home Tuesday afternoon in the 7400 block of Clayburn Street. The woman and child, who is believed to be either 4 or 5 years old, suffered burns and smoke inhalation. The woman was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital with burns over 50 percent of her body and suffering from smoke inhalation. The boy was taken to Children’s Hospital with burns, also suffering from smoke inhalation. According to the Detroit Fire Department, firefighters pulled them from the house right when they arrived about noon Tuesday.

DETROIT – An 11-year-old, who battled and now overcome cancer twice in his lifetime, rang the bell to signal the end of his treatment. After several months, Pedro Martinez was able to leave Children’s Hospital. He experienced a relapse earlier this year and had to receive a bone marrow transplant from his father. (This year) 2020 has been a tough year for all of us, and it’s moments like this that really brings us together,” said Kathy Donovan, chief executive officer of Children’s Hospital of Michigan. Children’s Hospital of Michigan is home to the region’s only pediatric bone marrow transplant unit.

DETROIT – A Metro Detroit family was stunned by a massive ambulance bill after their child was taken less than 25 miles at normal traffic speeds with a non-life-threatening dog bite. Little Kenna’s family was stunned when they received a bill for more than $5,000 from the ambulance company. They’ve been battling the ambulance company for months, and the issue wasn’t resolved until Help Me Hank stepped in. They claim they tried to negotiate with Superior Ambulance, but didn’t have any luck. “We’re thankful to Help Me Hank,” Saltzman said.

REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. The mother of a 5-year-old girl who was accidentally shot by her younger brother, who found a loaded gun, in Redford Township has a message for other parents with guns. The shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. Monday inside a mobile home on Plymouth Road near Haggerty Road in Redford Township, police said. Karina Norwood is recovering at Childrens Hospital after her 4-year-old brother found a loaded gun and accidentally shot her in the head. He woke up, went into a back bedroom and unlocked a small closet, which had a loaded gun inside, Kiser said. He thought it was a toy gun, Kiser said.

DETROIT Police are investigating the cause of a six-car crash on I-75. A 6-month-old girl has been hospitalized with a fractured skull due to the crash, according to police. The crash happened at 5:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-75 near the Clay exit in Detroit. The girl was taken to Childrens Hospital and is in critical condition.

RIVER ROUGE, Mich. A senior at River Rouge High School is celebrating more than one type of graduation after he spent three weeks on a ventilator and survived the coronavirus (COVID-19). Alijah Cromartie, 18, thought he would be spending this month finishing his senior year at River Rouge. Cromartie was discharged Thursday, and RIM staff members wanted to make sure it didnt go unnoticed. It wasnt the graduation he had planned, but Cromartie couldnt hide his job as the staff celebrated him beating the coronavirus. After three weeks on a ventilator at Childrens Hospital, Cromartie went to RIM to continue his recovery.

Health officials with Michigan Medicine released a statement, saying it's inappropriate to continue to keep the boy on life support.
