Lane and ramp closures will begin at 7 a.m. Monday, March 8, on I-75 for punch list items and sound wall construction in the city of Troy, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). MDOT says the following restrictions will be in place:Only the left lane will be open on northbound I-75 at Big Beaver Road as crews work on repairing a drainage connection. Northbound ramp traffic will be detoured to the Crooks Road/ Corporate Drive interchange while southbound ramp traffic will be directed to Rochester Road . Northbound I-75 will have two lanes open near Wattles Road as crews build a new sound wall. The lane closures are expected to remain in place until mid-April.

ANN ARBOR – Researchers at the University of Michigan said that the state’s “Pause to Save Lives” mandate in mid-November likely saved thousands of lives during the holiday season. According to preliminary findings by the School of Public Health, the measures over Thanksgiving and Christmas might have prevented more than 100,000 cases of COVID-19 across the state. That translates to 2,800 lives saved based on the state’s fatality rate of 2.6%. They also determined that government response measures, including closures, public health efforts and economic supports, had an impact on case prevention. Michigan had the lowest amount of coronavirus cases in the Midwest over the holiday season.

DETROIT – A serious collision shut down the southbound lanes of the Lodge Freeway in Detroit Sunday night. Video from the scene shows at least two vehicles were involved near Chicago Boulevard. It’s unknown when the southbound lanes will reopen. Police have not released further details at the time.

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – I-75 in Oakland County has been full of orange barrels since March but now with vehicles traveling on the correct aide of the freeway, crews are gearing to wrap up for the winter. The project is right on schedule and all lanes are expected to be open by December. While it’s called a modernization project, it’s more than making the freeway look modern. After the seasonal shutdown, construction is scheduled to start back up in March, which is when they will work on the south side of I-75 from I-696 to Eight Mile Road. GROSSE POINTE FARMS, Mich. – A popular haunted house in Grosse Pointe Farms was hit with a double whammy this year -- in addition to coronavirus complicating things, a summer storm did serious damage to the property. Just not the ones they got early this summer when a storm blew through, uprooted a tree and sent it it crashing in the Williams' house and the attractions for this year’s Haunted Garage. Each year the proceeds from the garage go to Grosse Pointe schools, where Williams was a gym teacher. Williams didn’t want to give away the plans for next year other than he’ll have a big new attraction coming for 2021. More information can be found on the Haunted Garage Production website here.

DETROIT – Michigan State Police troopers are investigating a fatal crash that happened Sunday on the eastbound ramp from the Davison Freeway to I-75. Police said the driver lost control of the vehicle just after 5 p.m. and struck the right wall, causing the vehicle to go over the overpass and land on the Davison Freeway service drive to I-75. Police said the driver was ejected as the vehicle went off the overpass. The driver, a 25-year-old man from Detroit, was pronounced dead at the scene. The ramp from eastbound Davison Freeway to I-75 and the service drive were closed for several hours during the investigation but have since reopened.

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. A gasoline tanker truck caught fire Saturday on Square Lake Road near Opdyke Road in Bloomfield Township. According to Bloomfield Township Police, the area -- including parts of I-75 -- have been shut down due to the fire. Hazmat teams were called to the area. Police Tweeted that residents in the area are urged to shelter in place and to call 911 immediately if they feel ill.

DETROIT If youre headed north this weekend or down to Detroit, there is a freeway closure you need to be warned about. As we navigate through this strange time, we also have to continue to navigate through the 75 construction. The bad news is the freeway will be closed this weekend, the good news is despite the pandemic, the project is still on track. The closure affects 75 in both directions between 8 mile and Square Lake. While the pandemic has caused a decrease in traffic volumes on I-75, that hasnt necessarily sped up the projectAll the lesser traffic volumes especially early in the spring allowed for a safer work zone, said Morosi.

DETROIT The Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Sunday night on I-94 in Detroit. According to authorities, at about 8:45 p.m., a 22-year-old man from Hamtramck was driving erratically on I-94 before pulling over in a construction zone, blocking traffic. A witness stopped to render aid and called police. Police said the victim had been shot multiple times and was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries. It is unknown when I-94 will reopen.

DETROIT According to city officials, the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice will close at 1 p.m. Monday, for a scheduled demonstration on the courthouse steps. Authorities said any afternoon hearings or other matters that are scheduled after 1 p.m. will be rescheduled and other divisions of the Third Circuit Court will be open for normal operations.

ROYAL OAK, Mich. Craft beer bar and restaurant chain Hopcat confirmed the permanent closure of its Royal Oak location on Wednesday. Hopcat founder Mark Sellers told Eater Detroit that the location is permanently closing over disagreements with the landlord. It is with heavy heart that we announce the closure of our HopCat - Royal Oak location. We will be seeking a new location in Royal Oak so we can resume serving this awesome community in the future.Officials say they are looking to reopen the restaurant at a new location in the city in the future. Hopcats Royal Oak location has been closed since March amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
