Read full article: I-75 lane and ramp closures begin Monday, March 8, in Oakland CountyLane and ramp closures will begin at 7 a.m. Monday, March 8, on I-75 for punch list items and sound wall construction in the city of Troy, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). MDOT says the following restrictions will be in place:Only the left lane will be open on northbound I-75 at Big Beaver Road as crews work on repairing a drainage connection. Northbound ramp traffic will be detoured to the Crooks Road/ Corporate Drive interchange while southbound ramp traffic will be directed to Rochester Road . Northbound I-75 will have two lanes open near Wattles Road as crews build a new sound wall. The lane closures are expected to remain in place until mid-April.

According to preliminary findings by the School of Public Health, the measures over Thanksgiving and Christmas might have prevented more than 100,000 cases of COVID-19 across the state. That translates to 2,800 lives saved based on the state’s fatality rate of 2.6%. They also determined that government response measures, including closures, public health efforts and economic supports, had an impact on case prevention. Michigan had the lowest amount of coronavirus cases in the Midwest over the holiday season.

The project is right on schedule and all lanes are expected to be open by December. While it’s called a modernization project, it’s more than making the freeway look modern. After the seasonal shutdown, construction is scheduled to start back up in March, which is when they will work on the south side of I-75 from I-696 to Eight Mile Road. Just not the ones they got early this summer when a storm blew through, uprooted a tree and sent it it crashing in the Williams' house and the attractions for this year’s Haunted Garage. Each year the proceeds from the garage go to Grosse Pointe schools, where Williams was a gym teacher. Police said the driver lost control of the vehicle just after 5 p.m. and struck the right wall, causing the vehicle to go over the overpass and land on the Davison Freeway service drive to I-75. Police said the driver was ejected as the vehicle went off the overpass. The driver, a 25-year-old man from Detroit, was pronounced dead at the scene. The ramp from eastbound Davison Freeway to I-75 and the service drive were closed for several hours during the investigation but have since reopened.

According to authorities, at about 8:45 p.m., a 22-year-old man from Hamtramck was driving erratically on I-94 before pulling over in a construction zone, blocking traffic. A witness stopped to render aid and called police. Police said the victim had been shot multiple times and was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries. It is unknown when I-94 will reopen.
