Smith was charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident when at fault, resulting in death and failure to stop at the scene of an accident, resulting in serious impairment or death. The crash happened at about 11:30 p.m. on northbound I-375, near Monroe Avenue. Police said the driver, a 27-year-old man, lost control of the vehicle and hit a wall and the vehicle caught fire. The driver got out and pulled a 21-year-old woman from the vehicle. Michigan state troopers said they believe speeding and alcohol could be factors in the crash.

A livestock truck carrying nearly 40 cows overturned on I-75 Wednesday near Grayling in Crawford County. Volunteers and officials Crawford County Animal Control were called to the scene to help with the animals. According to Crawford County officials, local farmers volunteers to help round up and transport the remaining cattle. The freeway was reopened at about 1 p.m.

Police are investigating a fatal collision Saturday after a 67-year-old man was struck on Gratiot Avenue at about 4:30 a.m. According to authorities, police were dispatched to Gratiot Avenue, near Victor Street, just west of the I-94 on reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Officers found the man in the road, where he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the driver, a 22-year-old man, was taken into custody by St. Clair Shores Police. He is expected to be charged Monday with leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
