Seasons Hospice in Metro Detroit went above and beyond the call of duty to grant a young father’s wish. Scott LaPointe is a 42-year-old father with Lou Gehrig’s disease, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. He’s in home hospice care because his body is failing him, but he won’t fail his 11-year-old son, Alex. She mentioned her search to LaPointe’s music therapist with Seasons Hospice and she managed to track down a copy. Seasons Hospice Foundation, which grants wish fulfillment, had a link with the publisher and a week later, therapist Jennifer Fromius handed LaPointe what he wanted to leave his son.

DETROIT – The city of Detroit got involved to help make Doris Barnes’ birthday special on Thursday. The mother of five celebrated her 100th birthday. DETROIT – The Detroit Rescue Mission’s Genesis House II is doing amazing things for women and children in Detroit without a place to call home. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the shelter could have easily closed, but instead they stayed open and found new ways to help by offering job training, virtual education for children and more. The computer lab upgrade is a part of a Comcast program called Lift Zones, which aims to help bridge the digital divide in Michigan. Conway was a trailblazer in technology and transgender rights. She was fired from IBM in 1968 before the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2020 that transgender people are included in the Civil Rights Act of 1964. “Pretty much immediately fired,” Conway recalled. “Because of what happened, the way it happened, I didn’t see my kids again until they were adults,” Conway said. In 2020, 52 years after Conway was fired, IBM awarded her with a lifetime achievement award and apologized.

DETROIT – The Motor City Match program has helped more than 13,000 businesses in Detroit, ranging from boutiques to nail salons. On Monday, a Motor City Match winner celebrated the opening of her nail salon located in the basement of an apartment building on Second Avenue. After spending years working at salons in the suburbs, she wanted to bring the luxury to the city. Vang said getting to this day took over two years, dealing with a variety of hurdles such as the coronavirus pandemic. As I always say, I want to serve the city that have raised me.

DETROIT Skateboarders are not fine with party-goers trashing a local park after a long weekend. The whole field basically filled with trash, said local skater Paolo Delapena. There were alcohol bottles and food boxes all over the skating park. Casem pointed out its not from the community that uses the park, but instead outsiders who have found a new hang out spot. While skaters are fine with sharing the park, they want visitors to do their part in keeping it clean.
