Main Street for second time during relining projectANN ARBOR โ An estimated 50 gallons of sanitary sewage was released onto South Main Street on Wednesday morning after a contractorโs attempt to divert the sanitary sewer flow failed. This is the second incident to occur at the same site since Feb. 22, when an estimated 10,000 gallons of sewage was released onto South Main Street as a result of a failure during an ongoing sanitary sewer relining project. โThe pipe was diverting sanitary sewer flow while the contractor cleaned the sanitary sewer main in advance of lining the pipe,โ reads a news release. The contractor will be charged with all costs to the city related to the incident. The city of Ann Arbor notified the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy of the incident, in accordance with protocols.

Main Street on Monday was a result of a sanitary sewer overflow. According to the city, a contractor was working on a sanitary sewer relining project in the mid morning when it experienced a by-pass pumping failure. As a result, an estimated 10,000 gallons of sanitary sewage was released onto South Main Street. โThe by-pass operation was being done to divert the sanitary sewer while the contractor cleaned the sewer main in advance of lining the pipe,โ reads a news release. City of Ann Arbor staff notified the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy, in observance of regulatory protocols.

Vincent Matte Augostino, 52, was arrested Wednesday. Augostino is a contractor who operates under the name โA-1 Handyman,โ officials said. On at least two occasions in 2019, Augostino collected money for jobs that he never completed, according to police. Riverview police had been searching for Augostino before Wednesdayโs arrest.
