As extreme heat and humidity are forecasted this week across metro Detroit, the City of Farmington Hills will open the Costick Activities Center as a cooling center for anyone looking for relief.

Several places around Washtenaw County act as cooling centers during the summer to make sure that those needing to escape the heat have a safe place to go.

DETROIT Michigan has been recently experiencing a heat wave -- and the temperatures can become dangerous in the next few days. An excessive heat watch is in effect from Wednesday morning through Thursday evening across the state. It is important to find relief from the heat, even briefly, over the next few days. For those without shelter or air conditioning, cooling centers are open to help people escape the heat. WASHTENAW COUNTY, Mich. Two cooling centers will open to the public on Tuesday in Washtenaw County. Those locations are open to residents who need a place to stay cool and safe during this weeks heat wave. People who go to the cooling centers are reminded to follow social distancing guidelines. The cooling centers will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. through Friday. County administration has plans to make the centers available to the public on any day the temperature goes above 85 degrees.
