Painted sneakers will be on display at ‘Art Prize’s

Outreach teams are driving up and down Metro Detroit streets, ensuring no one stays outside in the dangerously cold temperatures.

Covenant House has been running in Detroit since 1997 and has helped more than 80,000 homeless youth in that time.

On a blustery cold night, dozens of community leaders and business executives spent the night sleeping outside on the grounds of Covenant House.

The Chick-fil-A Foundation released its 2018 donations report Monday and touted the funding it provided to charities including Covenant House, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Salvation Army. In the process the business gave a preview of what organizations it plans on supporting in 2019. The Atlanta-based fast food chain announced that in 2019 it will donate to organizations that focus on education, hunger and homelessness. Chick-fil-A is no stranger to the spotlight, frequently making national headlines with CEO Dan Cathys stances on gay marriage. Chick-fil-A donated $1.65 million to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and $115,000 to The Salvation Army in 2018.

DETROIT A place thats come to symbolize opportunity and second chances in Downtown Detroit has gotten some big upgrades. A ribbon-cutting celebration was held Tuesday at the emergency shelter for homeless youth. More than 900 young people are enrolled each year in Covenant House programs, which include four second chance high schools authorized through Grand Valley State University. Those schools offer dropouts and at-risk youth a shot at getting their diploma. Watch the video above for the full report.
