The Detroit Public Schools Community District is the largest in Michigan with roughly 50,000 students. Schools that open will become vectors of disease spread, and the spread wont be limited to the schools. The district said teachers will have the option of teaching online, though nearly all schools with have some in-person instruction. Teachers could earn an extra $750 per quarter, or $3,000 for the year, if they work in classrooms, the district said.

The Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) has has been very clear that it has wanted parents to have a choice between face-to-face or remote learning. The approved plan includes the choices of in-person or online learning, smaller in-person class sizes and daily safety protocols like cleaning, masks and social distancing. Gay-Dagnogo said Superintendent Nikoli Vitti and the school board should reconsider the plan. Nearly a dozen protesters were arrested last week for blocking school buses from picking up children for summer school classes. In-person summer school is being offered at 25 Detroit Public Schools Community District facilities. They say the settlement “will help secure the right of access to literacy for students in Detroit who faced obstacles they never should have faced.”Details of the agreement will be released later Thursday. The cost of the athletic field project is $650,000, of which $291,000 has already been raised. Major supporters of the football field project are general contractor Barton Malow (Southfield) and Foresite Design (Berkley), a landscape architectural firm that specializes in the design of athletic and recreational facilities. When completed, the field will be home not only to the Comets, but also eight Detroit Police Athletic League (PAL) youth football teams and one Detroit PAL youth soccer team.
