Community members can choose from three price points or pick their own price. NOW studios is a safe space to explore, express and process, and spaces like the downtown Ann Arbor studio seem to work. Community members can tune into NOW programming via live streaming and social media platforms.

ANN ARBOR – The University Musical Society has announced that all in-person events have been canceled through April due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Ticketholders can choose to receive a full refund, a UMS gift certificate that’s good for the next five years or donate the purchase price of their ticket to UMS. Their Instagram page makes Kendall and Ronnie Roderick look like a couple straight out of the 40′s. The couple run Live Collegiate Shag, an Instagram account dedicated to showing off the dance in exciting locations all over the world. Collegiate Shag is an upbeat partner dance popular with college kids in the 1930′s. It mostly went out of fashion after the 40′s, but the Rodericks say they’re bringing it back with the channel. The pair combine dance with travel, appearing in front of amazing backdrops all over the world.

We are continuing to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month with traditional Mexican dance. This husband and wife duo created their dance group in 2005 to educate the students and their audiences about Mexican culture. The dance group is free for students and they use money from their performances to fund their wardrobes. BFM believes it is important to understand Mexican culture. From digital artist residencies to in-person events, here’s what you can look forward to this season with UMS. Sheku Kanneh-Mason & Isata Kanneh-MasonDigital Premiere: Sunday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. with live Q&A with the artists after the concertSheku Kanneh-Mason & Isata Kanneh-Mason. Both artists will join UMS audiences in a live chat on Facebook after the digital premiere. Pierce’s UMS residency will explore social justice, anti-racism, and the Black canon of performance work.

Rhonda established the Rhonda Walker Foundation in 2003 to support inner-city teen girls from throughout the Detroit Public School System.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. Modified in-person events and digital events are among the changes recently announced by the University Musical Society at the University of Michigan for its 2020-2021 season. Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), travel restrictions and tour cancellations, many in-person performances have either been canceled or rescheduled. Instead, UMS audiences will be able to connect with performers through digital presentations, outdoor workshops, digital artist residences and modified in-person events. Digital presentations will be produced and streamed online for UMS audiences. Through a digital platform, artists will be able to casually interact with audiences, offer mini-performance experiences, make digital art and offer a look inside their creative process.

They patrol the streets by day, but in their free time theyre inside a local dance studio teaching kids dance, hoping to keep them off the streets. At just 7 years old, little Azariah is learning the ins and outs of hip-hop dance. Instead of giving them tickets we get to know them more."It's beneficial because it's bringing hip-hop to Detroit and kids love to dance you know?" But Detroit Culture Company Inc. is still hard at work cleaning up the city, educating the youth about Juneteenth and even hosting a socially distanced food giveaway train. OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. Dancers in Oakland County got to show their friends and family what theyve been working on for months. A dance studio didnt let coronavirus (COVID-19) stop them from having a recital. The studio used a racetrack and a radio to help the show go on. Watch the video above for the full report.

DETROIT Will it be safe for children, high schoolers or anybody to play sports amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic? Experts have divided 25 popular sports into three categories: high, moderate and low risk. The National Federation of State High School Associations released their list, which is based on the amount of close, sustained contact, along with other factors. Oklahoma recently rejected a plan that would have required social distancing and allowed all high school sports to resume without restrictions. One idea being considered by many states would change the calendar to shift lower risk sports to fall and move higher risk ones to the spring.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. A video made by Haisley Elementary School teachers has lifted the spirits of students stuck at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Organized by first-grade teacher Ashley Wight, the video starts with drone footage of empty school grounds around the elementary school. It transitions to a video call between Wight and Haisley Principal Dante Watson who talk about missing their students and the Haisley community. Haisley teachers can be seen dancing by themselves and with family members to The Git Up by singer-songwriter Blanco Brown. Over the phone, Wight said that most of the Haisley teachers and teachers assistants participated.

Students at the University of Michigan will be able to explore these questions through upcoming spring courses. The 5-week online courses will cover fake news, ignorance, natural disasters, healing and other realities of the COVID-19 crisis. Healing Dance and Drum CircleAn introductory studio dance course, students will sing, dance and make music in order to cultivate healing movements. Foreign News CoverageThe course investigates coverages of foreign media, media systems and factors or criteria influencing media decisions. Students will discuss issues faced by foreign correspondents and critique news coverage of COVID-19.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. Performance Playground offers a free, online resource for children interested in learning new artistic skills at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Created by the University Musical Society of the University of Michigan, the new learning platform has skill-building units for children and teenagers aged five to 13. Each unit is lead by professional teaching artists and focuses on different types of performing arts.
