A Canton womans child care family home license that was suspended by the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) in July has been reinstated. LARA initially suspended Sheila Robbins license, effective July 31. An original notice posted by LARA cited a drug screening as the reason for the initial summary suspension. However, an administrative law judge granted LARAs motion to lift the summary suspension on Aug. 28. LARA also withdrew its notice of intent to revoke.

On Oct. 24, the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs issued final orders revoking three licenses associated with the Cantrell Funeral Home in Detroit. Final Orders were issued against the mortuary science licenses of: Cantrell Funeral Home, Inc. Raymond Cantrell II, Cantrells last known Resident Agent and Director Jameca Boone, Cantrells last known managerAll three of the licensees entered into settlement agreements with LARA that were approved by the Board of Examiners in Mortuary Science. The Final Order against the establishments license revoked it for a minimum of ten years and required it to pay a $115,000 administrative fine within one year. The Final Order against Jameca Boones license revoked the license for a minimum of three years and required her to pay the other half of the costs of $11,480 in restitution to the State before seeking the reinstatement of her license. Both Ellis Memorial Funeral Home in Detroit and Kemp Funeral Home & Cremation Services LLC in Southfield assisted the families of loved ones in achieving final dispositions in the immediate aftermath of Cantrells closure.

Whitmer and the new director of the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs asked the state's medical marijuana board to approve the measure due to a shortage of medical marijuana in Michigan. The medical marijuana board has extended its grace period for license applicants to March 31, 2019. This is a stop-gap measure that would get provisioning centers open again while the state works on licensing. That only applies to medical marijuana.
