Some may think that Eminem’s debut album was 1999′s “The Slim Shady,” but before the Detroit rapper was selling millions of albums worldwide, he was selling copies of his actual first album, 1996′s “Infinite,” out of the back of his car on the streets of Detroit.

For this weeks “Music Monday” on “Live in the D” we’re getting you ready for a popular winter event happening in Downtown Royal Oak. The Winter Blast presented by Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort kicks off this weekend, and in edition to ice skating, food trucks and more, the event will feature 40 local musical acts.

Tyler Common of Hazel Park has been performing around Metro Detroit for years. On Monday he and his guitarist paid a visit to “Live in the D,” where they spoke with host Tati Amare. Common describes his sound as pop-rock, and says there are many artists who influence him, including John Mayer. Common’s current project is titled “Never Ending Blues,” which he says has 10 original tracks, and took over 2 1/2 years to complete. “I put everything I had into it...it’s 10 songs I wrote from the heart,” Common said.

DETROIT – As Michigan businesses slowly start to reopen, Detroit’s historic Majestic Theatre has been placed on the market. The Majestic Theatre and Magic Stick are both part of the National Independent Venue Association. In May, the organization estimated 90% of independent venues nationwide could close down permanently due to COVID-19. RELATED: Independent music venues look to Lansing for assistance amid pandemicIn 2018, the Majestic Theatre underwent a $1 million renovation to restore its façade and improve the stage and concert area. The Majestic Theatre was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

Many stars -- from Motown to Bob Seeger, Big Sean, Madonna, Kid Rock, Jack White and Eminem -- became big names playing big venues, but the smaller venues have fostered an ongoing business and culture that’s in danger of disappearing. In May, the organization estimated 90% of independent venues nationwide could close down permanently due to COVID-19. There are more than 80 Michigan venues that are a part of NIVA, most are in Metro Detroit. These independent venues asked the federal government for assistance and didn’t receive any. NIVA said it needs about $10 million for the more than 80 independent venues across the state to stay afloat.

DETROIT The Detroit Symphony Orchestra kicked off its outdoor summer concert series on Wednesday night. The performance was held outside the orchestra hall. It was the first of seven free shows scheduled in August throughout the city of Detroit. Small groups of musicians perform for limited audiences at the DSOs Sosnick Courtyard as well as three Detroit Riverfront Conservancy venues: Robert C. Valade Park, the Dequindre Cut Freight Yard, and Gabriel Richard Park. DETROIT – Police released new video of the suspects wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of Slick B, a popular Detroit DJ. Slick B was shot and killed Friday during an attempted robbery on Detroit’s west side. DETROIT – Eminem dropped a surprise album, “Music To Be Murdered By," on Friday. The album includes songs featuring Juice WRLD, who died last month, as well as fellow Detroit rapper Royce Da 5′9″, Skyler Gray, Ed Sheeran and more. He repeatedly brings up people who have criticized his music and mentions the past multiple times. Darker topics also emerge when news clips reporting shootings across the country are played at the end of “Darkness,” one of the slower tracks.
