Detroit police Chief James Craig said the man involved in the shooting approached the Fifth Precinct in a large, black SUV and got out with a “high-powered” rifle. He fired about four shots into the police station, Craig said. The lieutenant at the desk put out a call for help, and as units responded, the armed man left the front area of the police station, according to authorities. When he came across one of the responding police vehicles, the man fired at it, hitting it at least once in the windshield, officials said.

Maybe a 2014 GMC Arcadia, a Burgundy Chevrolet Malibu and a darker color SUV, drove past. The children involved in the incident are doing well and being cared for by family members, according to Gonzales. One officer fired between five and six rounds of his weapon at the suspect, officials said. Officials say the man continued to run after he was struck.

Chief Craig says police now believe at least one of the other two men involved in the chase on July 23 may have been involved in the quadruple shooting on July 19. Police also believe that the man who was shot who was suspected in the quadruple shooting may have been involved in other shootings, including one in Eastpointe.
