Homeless shelters across Metro Detroit are already full headed into the winter months.

Detroit is reminding residents that respite locations and warming centers are available to provide relief from the cold, frigid temperatures.

Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries was filled with gifts and the spirit of gratitude on Saturday as the organization distributed gifts to more than 2,000 families in need across the Metro Detroit area.

Detroit's warming centers and respite locations are open to relieve residents from the cold.

The Rhonda Walker Foundation held their annual Christmas Cares Party, gifting presents and good times to homeless children and families.

Somerset Collection is thrilled to support Detroit musicians by holding the Tune Into Somerset Collection contest. Launched the day before Thanksgiving and open through Dec 3, musicians submitted videos of themselves playing their instruments to ClickOnDetroit. The Somerset Collection has chosen its winners who will receive $2,500 each and perform during the holidays for mallgoers! In the holiday spirit, Somerset Collection also donated $2,500 in each of the winners’ names to Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries, an organization that helps feed and house the homeless. Additionally, Somerset loved all the entries so much that they’re even giving $50 gift cards to all those who submitted eligible entries!

The city of Detroit has opened the doors of four warming centers today, in partnership with Detroit non-profit organizations Cass Community Social Services and Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries. Those seeking refuge from the cold should visit appropriate access points at the shelters to meet with a staff member to discuss available options.
