Temperatures dropping well below average into the end of the week

Sun slips away as rain takes over in Metro Detroit this week. A quick warm up on Tuesday will be followed by a significant cool down by Thursday.

Metro Airport last reported a day with clear skies on Nov. 8. The region last had a day of partly cloudy skies on Wednesday. Apart from partly cloudy skies on Monday, Southeast Michigan will have a stretch of cloudy, rainy and windy weather.

A stronger system will move into the region looking ahead into the middle and next of next week

Sunday will be a few degrees warmer, but it will be cloudy with the chance of a couple of rain showers.

Saturday, people in some communities will wake up to patchy fog and mist. Otherwise, we will have a mix of sunshine and clouds with highs in the lower 50s. Winds will be out of the south-southwest around 5 mph.

Warmer than average weekend ahead.

Showers are tapering off, but the clouds aren’t going anywhere yet. Friday will be dry, but a few showers could develop off the lake in the Thumb. Highs Friday will get to around 52 degrees.

Showers and a few thunderstorms will impact Metro Detroit on Saturday evening and night. Thunderstorms will be capable of heavy rain and wind gusts up to 40 mph as they move east at 40 mph.

Temperatures will range from around 60 degrees in the Thumb to around 65 degrees near Detroit on Saturday.

Under mostly clear to partly cloudy skies, temperatures will gradually fall into the 50s during the evening. This will mean great sky conditions for the chance of seeing the northern lights.

A frost advisory will be in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday for Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston, Oakland, Washtenaw and Lenawee counties.

The first frost of the season arrives in Lapeer and Genesee counties overnight, and a Frost Advisory is in effect.

Sunday night will be partly cloudy, breezy, and cool. As a cooler air mass slides over Southeast Michigan, the temperatures will tumble into the upper 40s near Detroit and around 40 degrees in the Thumb. Winds will be out of the northwest at 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

Saturday night will be mostly clear, which will give some communities of Southeast Michigan the chance to see the northern lights. Lows will be near 60 degrees in Detroit, upper 50s in Brighton, Ann Arbor, Flint, and Sterling Heights. Lows will fall down into the mid 50s in the Thumb.

The weekend looks pretty good to start, but could be a little wet to finish.

Expect clouds in the morning and maybe an isolated sprinkle, especially north of I-69. Otherwise, it will become partly cloudy in the afternoon, with a high of around 72 degrees.

Lows will be 60 to 65 degrees with the cooler temperatures in the Thumb and the higher temperatures around Detroit. Winds will be out of the northeast at 5 to 10 mph. Gusts will be up to 20 mph.

As this storm works up through the southeastern United States and into the Ohio and Mississippi Valley, we will see an increase in cloud cover through the end of the week and into the upcoming weekend.

We had an outside shot at a stray shower Wednesday, but Monday’s data just doesn’t support it. It looks like we might see some high, thin clouds but no moisture to water our lawns.

Southeast Michigan will have a pleasant night. Temperatures will fall to the lower 60s, except for lows in the mid to upper 50s in the Thumb and Ann Arbor. Skies will be mostly clear, but there is a chance of patchy fog developing overnight.

Our stretch of super dry weather continues until next week and possibly longer. The long-range temperature outlook also keeps us feeling more like mid-summer than approaching fall.

Warmth and above-average temperatures are the name of the game around southeast Michigan, and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

Southeast Michigan will have partly cloudy to mostly clear skies on Monday night, but patchy fog will develop and potentially impact travel. The fog could become dense in some communities and reduce visibility to a quarter-mile or less.
