A later start time would mean high school students would be in school until 4:20 p.m. If the change is made, it would make the start time earlier at some elementary schools. The start time at Henderson, T. Marshall, Garvey and Nichols would be moved up to 7:30 a.m., while the start times at Emerson and Clippert would become later. Yvonne Carson’s daughter attends Cass Tech High School.

Read full article: Detroit public schools get $5.9 million grant for new student portalDETROIT – The Ballmer Group has made a $5.9 million grant to Detroit public schools for a new student data portal. “It’s a grant from the Ballmer group and it’s exciting to have this grant. At the end of the day it’s going to create more transparency with parents and students hopefully increasing efficiency. I think it opens the door for other philanthropic groups to invest in the district,” Vitti said. The portal is also meant to be beneficial to support staff such as non profits and mentoring groups.
