LANSING, Mich. – A Michigan State Police trooper has been charged with felonious assault in connection with a traffic stop in which he let his police dog attack a motorist despite no resistance, the agency said Friday. Parker Surbrook was charged following the Nov. 13 traffic stop in Lansing where a passenger was believed to be armed, state police said. Surbrook let his dog attack the driver “for an extended period of time,” police said. Surbrook joined the state police in 2012 and he became a canine handler in 2017. He's been removed from the canine unit and will remain on unpaid suspension while the criminal charge is pending, police said.

DETROIT – A 5-year-old boy who was attacked by two dogs Friday morning is expected to survive. Police said the boy was feeding five large dogs with the owner, a 36-year-old man, when the man left the room for a few minutes and when he came back, he saw two dogs attacking the child. “We heard the dogs being taken out in the trucks,” West recalled. Neighbors said they often saw the dogs just roaming around the street. He would say, ‘Get away from the dogs,’” West said.

DETROIT – A 62-year-old man was mauled by four large dogs Friday morning as he was taking a walk on Detroit’s west side. Police said it happened at about 9:30 a.m. on Fullerton Avenue, between Linwood Street and Dexter Avenue, when four large dogs left their yard and began biting the victim on his legs, shoulder and ear. A neighbor was able to distract the dogs and get them away from the man. The dogs have been taken away by Detroit Animal Control. The man was rushed to a hospital where he was listed in temporary serious condition.

Police said the dog was a cane corso, a breed that can weigh up to 110 pounds when fully grown. The girl was inside her home when someone opened the door and the dog charged inside. The girl was rushed to a hospital. The girl is in critical condition and undergoing surgery, police said.

Forty-eight-year-old Deanna Tranchmontagne is charged with one count of having a dangerous animal causing serious injury -- a four-year felony. Two dogs -- a 60 pound pit bull and a 120 pound pit bill -- charged at a 45-year-old woman and her dog named Bella. The woman was bitten on her legs. Roseville detectives identified the dogs, which lived nearby, and they were surrendered Thursday.

ROSEVILLE, Mich. – A woman was injured and her 10-month-old dog killed after being attacked by two dogs in a Roseville neighborhood. Sometime after 6 p.m. on Monday, Mark Billings drove up Kathy Street in Roseville and turned left on Frazho Road, heading to a grocery store he frequently visits. Help my dog,’” Billings said. LINCOLN PARK, Mich. – When a pit bull in a Lincoln Park neighborhood was on the loose on Sept. 13, Tony Burgess' son and his friend ran into the house. Burgess then went outside to locate his 12-year-old daughter Emma. “My only instinct was to keep punching the dog until he let go,” Burgess said. I won’t let them come out. Burgess said the dog was taken by Lincoln Park Animal Control and quarantined for days.

PONTIAC, Mich. A German Shepard and two young children were taken from a Pontiac home Saturday afternoon. Police said it wasnt the first time deputies had been called to the residence regarding reports of child abuse. A deputy fired at the dog and the injured German Shepard ran back to its owner. The two children were turned over to a caseworker from CPS and the two women were taken into custody to be interviewed by detectives. An officer with Oakland County Animal Control took custody of the German Shepard.
