LANSING, Mich. – Secretary of State offices will offer priority driver’s license and state ID appointments from Oct. 5 through Nov. 2. READ: Grace period ending for expired Michigan driver’s licensesThe appointments will be available from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. They are for Michigan residents who need to get a first-time license or ID, replace one because of loss, or correct one because of a name change. “These appointments will ensure customers get the new or replacement driver’s license or state ID they may need as soon as possible,” Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said. Each individual must make a separate appointment to ensure enough time is allotted for service.

LANSING, Mich. – Time is running out for Michigan residents who have waited to renew their driver’s license or vehicle registration during the coronavirus pandemic. Anyone with an expiration date after March 1 were given a long grace period by the Legislature and Gov. But that period ends Wednesday and no extension is anticipated. “We have done everything we can to support Michiganders during this uncertain time and want to make sure they renew before the expiration extension ends," she said. Gretchen Whitmer has extended the deadline to renew drivers licenses, ID cards and vehicle registrations to the end of September. I am pleased to continue to work with the Legislature to codify significant Executive Orders that help Michiganders cope with the COVID-19 pandemic, Whitmer said. We have been continually assessing the safest way to maintain branch operations and this legislation will go a long way toward those efforts.Many transactions, including vehicle registration renewals, dont have to be conducted in person. Automobile, motorcycle and watercraft registration renewals also can be completed at one of the 122 Self-Service Stations located around the state.
