SUPERIOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. – What started as a fight between neighbors ended with a Washtenaw County Sheriff’s deputy shot and the suspected gunman dead. Early signs show the man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday morning. Before all the chaos started Wednesday at an apartment complex in Superior Township, Dakota Turner was unknowingly right there with the gunman. “I’m going around and I see this guy and he’s got a really like mean stare on his face,” recalled Turner. Turner was working his landscaping job in the neighborhood and thought offering this strange man some help was the right thing to do.

SUPERIOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Washtenaw County deputies are asking residents near an active police scene to stay inside or avoid the area. The affected area is in Superior Township, bordered by North Prospect, Geddes, East Clark and North Harris roads. Residents should stay inside if they’re home or avoid the area, if not, according to the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office.

YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A passenger died Wednesday in a head-on crash in Ypsilanti Township. Authorities said Lewis Loftus, 34, of Ypsilanti Township, was a passenger in one of the vehicles involved in the two-vehicle crash. He died when the cars collided on East Clark Road, near Wendell Avenue, about 4:50 p.m. The drivers of the vehicles suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
