Similarly Saturday’s protest in Detroit began peacefully until demonstrators became agitated when police ensured they kept their distance from the Detroit Police Department’s headquarters. Still, local pastors are calling on demonstrators to protest peacefully after long nights of tear gas and arrests by Detroit police. They believe going after "broken windows", j-walking and speeding everywhere, getting the "squeegee men" off the streets helped prevent larger and worse crimes thus reducing the crime rate. Yesterday the chief stood with a couple dozen local pastors from Detroit who want to initiate the "Detroit Night Walks" program used in Boston. I asked Bishop Edgar Vann, one of Detroit's foremost and well known religious figures a question about this program.
