4-year-old boy dies after nearly drowning in pool in Lapeer County

A 4-year-old boy died Wednesday after being found unresponsive in a swimming pool on Monday in Lapeer County. Officials say at around 9:28 a.m. on Monday the boy was found unresponsive within a pool at a residence on Hadley Road. Officials say the boy exited the home and unlocked a gate that accessed the swimming pool. Friends of the family discovered the boy and removed him from the pool and conducted CPR. The Lapeer County Sheriffs Office says the initial investigation supports that the incident was a tragic accident.

The property manager said two separate barns had been entered and rummaged through on that day. They were taken to the Lapeer County Jail.

Lapeer County deputies were called at 3:06 p.m. Saturday to a home on Oregon Road near Millville Road in Elba Township. The 7-year-old boy went into the water to try to catch a frog and fell below the surface, officials said. Police brought the boy to shore and transported him to McLaren Hospital in Lapeer County while performing lifesaving efforts, according to authorities. Lapeer County officials are continuing to investigate the incident.
