DETROIT - A man will stand trial in the death of a 9-year-old girl who was mauled by three dogs in Southwest Detroit. The owner of the dogs, 33-year-old Pierre Cleveland, was charged with second-degree murder and was back in court Wednesday. He was bound over Wednesday to Wayne County Circuit Court on second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter and having a dangerous animal causing death charges. "The dogs grabbed her by the leg and pulled her, and started eating her," said a neighbor in court. Cleveland's arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 16.He was released from the Wayne County Jail after he posted his $20,000 bond.

DETROIT - A devastated father whose 9-year-old daughter was mauled to death by three pit bulls in Detroit took the witness stand Wednesday against the dogs' owner. On Wednesday, her father faced the dogs' owner as he relived his daughter's death. Hernandez told the court when Cleveland finally came outside, he appeared upset, but wasn't clear about what. "I told him, 'Your dogs just killed my daughter,'" Hernandez said. He said Cleveland told him he would shoot the dogs, but at the point, it was too late.
DETROIT - Detroit Animal Control is expected to add nine more officers to its force by October. The department currently works with 10 trained officers. They are working to train enough new officers to nearly double the staff. Local 4 was there as family members led Pierre Cleveland from the Wayne County lockup after he posted his $20,000 bond. Cleveland walked out of the Division III at the William Dickerson Detention Facility at 3 p.m. Monday afternoon. Local 4's Larry Spruill asked Cleveland if he had anything to say to the Hernandez family. His bond was originally set at $2 million, but a judge lowered that bond Friday to $20,000, with a requirement that he must wear a GPS monitor.

DETROIT - Local businesses stepped up to donate dog sticks to Detroit police after a 9-year-old girl was mauled to death last week. Dog sticks make it easier to control animals that are attacking. Half a dozen businesses donated to the family and helped purchase the sticks for officers. "You had people from Birmingham, Detroit, Dearborn, Southfield, Dearborn Heights that didn't even know, but when I shared the story and I explained what was going on, everyone stepped up," Fayed said. Fayed said he intends to donate at least 100 dog sticks so all the deportment's precincts will have new dog sticks that work properly because the ones it currently has are worn and broken.
