LANSING, Mich. – As the total number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases sharply rises throughout Michigan, the state’s top medical official revealed concerning trends in a region-by-region breakdown. In the Kalamazoo Region, officials said there are 211 positive cases per million people per day and a 6.7% positivity rate. The Grand Rapids Region is at 155 cases per million people per day and 4.6% positivity, Khaldun said. Michigan’s lowest case rate is in the Traverse City Region, where officials report 62 cases per million people per day and a positivity rate of 3%, according to Khaldun. Both the case rate and the test positivity rate are increasing over the past two weeks in that ration, however.

LANSING, Mich. – Michigan Senate is set to go into session Thursday and take up coronavirus-related orders nearly a week after Michigan Supreme Court ruled to strike down Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s executive orders. In a split decision, the state Supreme Court overturned a 1945 law that Whitmer had been using to kick out executive orders with no checks and balances from Legislature. The court also said in a unanimous decision that all of Whitmer’s executive orders past April 30 are not valid because there was no input from the state Legislature. However, days of Whitmer issuing executive orders are over unless it’s a deal reached with the Legislature.

The governor’s emergency orders with respect to COVID-19 will expire on Oct. 23. “No county has suffered more under the pandemic than Wayne County,” Evans said. The Michigan Retailers Association is telling shoppers to mask up while shopping to abide by Gov. While retailers and retail employees appreciate Gov. This puts retail employees in potentially dangerous situations when theyre forced to confront unmasked customers. We worry for retail employees safety and disagree with the overly aggressive penalties for retailers. When shopping, please wear a mask and understand that retailers are not to blame for the states mask requirement.

DETROIT – Michigan is easing restrictions on visiting nursing homes and other care facilities for limited circumstances as the coronavirus pandemic continues. The orders allow expanded visitation in long-term care facilities including nursing homes, and in facilities for youth who are in child caring institutions or juvenile justice facilities. One order applies to residential long-term care facilities, which include nursing homes, homes for the aged, adult foster care facilities, hospice facilities, substance abuse disorder residential facilities, independent living facilities and assisted living facilities. The other order affects youth in congregate care facilities – known as child caring institutions – and juvenile justice facilities – also known as juvenile detention facilities. Safety requirements that facilities must follow to allow visitors can be found in the epidemic orders for residential long-term care facilities and for congregate care facilities.

The task force must produce a recommendation to the governor for an action plan on how to prepare nursing homes for any future wave of COVID-19 cases by August 31, 2020.
